From the Trados website:

« Featuring a host of exciting speakers from around the industry, our spring Trados Virtual Conference Series is not to be missed. Offering a carefully curated program presented by over 50 industry speakers, in nine different languages across four events. The Trados Virtual Conference Series is designed to inspire, educate and revitalize all in the translation community. »

I will be in conversation twice during this event. First on May 18 I speak with two other members of the ATA Board of Directors, Meghan Konkol and Lorena Ortiz Schneider on « Where too next for ATA members? Translators and Interpreters look to the future. »

Then on May 19 I join Evelyn Yang Garland and Abigail Dahlberg in a discussion entitled « One year on: What’s changed for the freelance translator? »

« Professional associations offer much to freelancers, aiming to give them a competitive advantage through professional development and niche communities where members find their home within the broader membership. Associations also pool efforts and resources for the benefit of professionals in areas that are harder for individuals to tackle alone, such as advocacy and outreach.

Join three current board members of the America Translators Association (ATA) as they discuss the outlook for translators and interpreters in the US, what the association is doing to support members whose income plummeted last year, advocacy work relating to crucial areas like access to early vaccination for onsite interpreters and the threats posed by worker classification laws, and more. »

« Karen Tkaczyk, Founder of McMillan Translation, hosts a panel of experienced translators as they discuss what they did to face the challenges of the pandemic and how their businesses have changed as a result.

Have they diversified? Changed the services they offer? Found new clients? Specialised in a new area? Got to grips with NMT? Let these pros inspire you and take away ideas that you may be able to apply in your business. »
